When the storms of life gather over your head,
come; find the shelter, relationships, and sustenance
to help you meet those storms.

FROM INSIDE THE PREACHER'S HEAD
By Michael J. Fetty

Darn Carts
"Have you ever gone to the grocery store and chosen a shopping cart that seems to have a mind of its own? This afternoon on my way home from the church, I thought I would stop by Kroger’s to pick up a few needed items. I walked in, got my shopping cart and began my journey through the store. However, the journey through the store was not turning out the way I had planned. My shopping cart was possessed. As I tried to push it down the aisle, it began to go where it wanted. Not where I wanted it to go."

SUMMERTIME!!

Summertime and the living is easy -- at least it's more relaxed and special events are planned. Through September 6, our Sunday morning services here at First Christian Church have taken on a summer look. Sunday School is taking a vacation and will resume September 13 with a brand new look. Stay tuned for new class offerings for all ages. During the heat of summer, come cool off and find refreshment here in worship.

The next trip to watch the Smokies is scheduled for Friday, August 21, against Chattanooga. The game is at 7:15,, so we'll leave at 5:45 from the church. Batter up! And fireworks after the game.

Every ninth month First Christian is responsible for operating the Ecumenical Storehouse in Oak Ridge. Our next month to do so is August. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 until noon we will be serving clients and on Saturdays we will be picking up donations. If you wish to volunteer to help, see Bill Wilson to sign up. Visit their web page to learn more aboutThe Ecumenical Storehouse, Inc.

AND FALL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!

As summer comes to an end, so does the season for vacations and no school. This September, as we begin worshipping and serving the Lord in our new facility, new life, new ministries, new programs, new excitement, new possibilities, new challenges, and new potentials also appear. Come, be refreshed and renewed!

In addition to the new facility, there will also be a new Sunday School program with two adult classes and several classes for children. Picnic and Praise in the Parking lot will morph into a regular Wired Wednesday evening program of food, fellowship, study, youth groups, and choir rehearsal. And, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Mont plan on October 17 from 9:30am to 3:00pm to come to A Celebration of Life and Laughter with Sue Buchanan. More information on each of these will be provided as the times near.

Click on the small picture to see a large copy.)

Sidewalk work continues; painting almost completed; stair and balcony rails installed.

Sidewalk preparation continues around the end of the music wing.
The railing up the stairs and wrapping on around the tower balcony is installed.
The wrap-around railing at the bottom is also in place.
The doorway into the office wing is modified for the installation for a side panel.
The choir room, as most of the building, has received its first coat of paint.

Click here for a slide show of the building progress from the very beginning.

Problems with the slide show? If the slide show seems to skip pictures or freeze up, just click on the picture, then your browser's back arrow. The show will restart. If your communication connection is too slow, you may have to repeat this several times.

Your tax-deductible contribution to our capital fund would be greatly appreciated, as we watch our facility rise from the ashes.
