The purpose statement of this congregation, as with any organization, describes the reason for our existence. The purpose states what we are to be at all times -- what we were when we first organized, what we are today, and what we shall be as long as we exist as an entity. Our statement of purpose is contained in Article II of our Constitution and has remained essentially unchanged from the first draft of the Constitution over five decades ago. It is stated as follows:

"The purpose of this church shall be as revealed in the New Testament:

to win people to faith in Jesus Christ and to commit them actively to the church,

to help them grow in grace and knowledge of Christ that increasingly they may know and do His will, and

to work for the unity of all Christians and with them to engage in the common task of building the Kingdom of God."
